Wine (much like this time of year) can be a little overwhelming! So we've decided to simplify things... Here are six delicious drops hand-picked by us and ready to be shipped to your door.
The Alea is the sweet little sister of the famous Polish Hill from Grosset. Perfectly balanced and off-dry, she's the girl you want to take out for date night in China Town. We love this Clare classic with spicy dishes and first enjoyed a bottle (or two) with an anniversary dinner at Mr Wong. Pour yourself a glass at your favourite Asian restaurant (only slightly chilled - not too cold) and bring on the spice!
Hunter Semillon doesn't get any better than the wines made by Brokenwood. Like Grosset and Riesling, Brokenwood is the Queen of a Semillons. This is their entry level drop but is rated as Outstanding by those in the know. Perfect with seafood on a sunny day... it's Spring in a bottle.
Winner of the inaugural Wine Please Tasmanian Pinot Noir blind tasting and one of our favourite wines. The famous Tamar Ridge in Tasmania is the perfect place the grow the fruit to make delicious Pinot Noir wines. Whilst some Pinots can be very expensive... this particular drop provides excellent value for money. And it's really delicious with lots of different foods, in particular those delicious duck pancakes with Hoi Sin sauce. Nom Nom.
We love this wine and whenever we invite friends to try it they do too. It's no movie star with celebrity appeal but more like the girl next door who turns out to be a total babe. We like this wine and their beautiful winery so much that we got married at Chapel Hill so we (and our friends) could drink it all night long. Enough said.
Shiraz Viognier is bang on trend and we think that Turners Crossing have a really delicious and unique example of this blend. This wine was literally delivered to our dinner table to try and has been a regular visitor even since. A smart wine. A conversation starter. And one of our top 10 wine discoveries for 2014. A great wine to take to a dinner party or to enjoy at your own little party!
Wine is meant to be classy and we love the Zema Estate Cabernet Sauvignon for just that reason. It's been called "neat, tidy, well flavoured and well mannered". What a find. The Zema is estate grown, hand-picked and released with several years of bottle age. Ridiculously drinkable.
