The Cabernets 14/02/2017

It's time to take a look at The Cabernets... Six amazing Cabernets from the two greatest Cabernet regions in Australia ~ Margaret River and the Coonawarra!

Cape Mentelle Trinders Cabernet Sauvignon Merlot

Margaret River

Cape -Mentelle -Trinders
This is a gorgeous Margaret River red from one of our favourite wineries, containing a delicious blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Petit Verdot and Cabernet Franc. The Trinders is made in the style of a Bordeaux wine and delivers great Margaret River fruit and grip. We keep a couple of Trinders in the cellar to see how it develops and have also enjoyed a few bottles recently at BBQs with friends. Served with a marinated, butterflied lamb and rocket salad it was a great match.

Moss Wood Amy's Cabernet Blend

Margaret River

Moss -Wood -Amys -Cabernet -Blend
The Amy's is a magnificent wine produced by the Mugford family in Margaret River. From the moment you open the bottle it is all Moss Wood class at a very affordable price. With a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Petit Verdot, Malbec and Merlot, the Amy's is another fantastic example of the Bordeaux-style wines that have made Margaret River famous. I'm feeling inspired just thinking about it... how many hours until I can pour a glass?

Woodlands Cabernet Franc Merlot

Margaret River

Woodlands _Cabernet _Franc
We were so excited when we discovered this wine and the other gems being produced by Woodlands in Margaret River. In fact we've become slightly obsessed! The Cabernet Franc here is blended with Merlot and just a drop of Malbec - perfection. With both the Woodlands Cab Sav Merlot and their Cab Franc Merlot drinking magnificently, it’s hard to choose between the two. Mrs WP is a massive Cab Franc fan and has stocked the cellar with this one. Luckily at such ridiculously great value for this calibre of wine, you can try both and decide for yourself!

Majella Coonawarra Cabernet Sauvignon

Coonawarra

Majella -Cabernet -Sauvignon
Mmmm Majella. This wine is an icon. A 100% Coonawarra Cabernet Sauvignon which is loved by both critics and wine lovers all over. If you can resist the temptation to drink it immediately, you'll be rewarded for your patience, with cellaring recommended for 10-15 years. But if you can't wait (we completely understand!) then just decant it at breakfast and enjoy it with dinner. Bon Appetit!

Zema Estate Cabernet Sauvignon

Coonawarra

Zema -Estate -Cabernet -Sauvignon
Wine is meant to be classy and we love the Zema Estate Cabernet Sauvignon for just that reason. It's been called "neat, tidy, well flavoured and well mannered." What a find. It's full of juicy fruit, Coonawarra class and is drinking beautifully. The Zema is 100% estate grown Cab Sav, hand-picked and released with several years of bottle age. Fabulous.

Leconfield Cabernet Sauvignon

Coonawarra

Leconfield -Cabernet -Sauvignon
One of our key rules when it comes to wine is "Drink what you like". Just like art, different wines appeal to different people and this is one we quite like. It has those classic Coonawarra Cab Sav ripe fruits, some  grip and a bold personality. Plus a splash of Cab Franc! A great dinner companion.
