Six on the Sixth - Edition #1 22/10/2015

6 On The 6th

The year is racing away and believe it or not, crazy season is about to begin! So we've decided to keep it super simple and tell you about our "Six on the Sixth" to make your wine shopping easy. Now I know it is not the sixth today... Mrs WP has had a busy few weeks travelling interstate and tasting all of these gorgeous wines and didn'tm anage to update the blog on time!

These are six premium wines, all absolutely delicious and selected by us, at $50 below RRP

Arras

Firstly, the stunning Tasmanian bubbles from House of Arras. This has quickly become on of our favourite sparklings and has a cult following in the industry. Made by Ed Carr who is a lovely guy and a genius winemaker. We think Arras is on a par with the top Champagne houses in France, delivering a delicious fine sparkle which is perfect for all occasions. If you need any reassurance, just look at the smiles on your guests faces as they take their first sip.

Vasse Felix Chardonnay

Vasse Felix is a beautiful winery and has a simply amazing restaurant, above the cellar door and overlooking the vines. Their Heytesbury Chardonnay is the flagship, however this is absolutely divine and brilliant value for money given its pedigree. Pop on your over-sized sunnies, order a bottle of Chardy and a little something from the restaurant and let it be known that you are having a marvellous time down South darlings.

Pierro LTC Semillon Sauvignon Blanc

Pierro is one of our favourite wineries in Margaret River and in fact the world. The cellar door is gorgeous and quaint and the wine is delicious. The Semillon Sauvignon Blanc blend is classic Margaret River and Pierro’s LTC is definitely at the upper end of the scale in terms of fabulousness. Make sure this has a few minutes out of the fridge before serving to really blossom. And serve it with a fancy seafood dish for maximum effect. Love.

Riposte The Sabre Pinot Noir

Only 'The Best Pinot Noir in Australia' right here ladies and gentlemen. Delicious, winning awards all over the place and with a cool name like 'The Sabre' - this wine has the trifecta. And we love that it is made by a small family team in the Adelaide Hills determined to produce fine wines with an authentic brand.

Catena Malbec

Winner of the inaugural Wine Please steak night and Malbec taste-off. The Catena has undergone rigorous tasting by the team and we have fallen deeply in love. If you love Malbec skip straight to the food recommendation.  In fact, your steak is probably already on the BBQ. If you’re not a fan of Malbec then don’t expect a Barossa Shiraz, be open to the more understated and savoury flavours… and you’ll have a new BBQ companion.

Bethany Shiraz

We’ve had the pleasure of enjoying Bethany Shiraz for many years, with a few bottles being tucked away in Dad’s cellar. More recently we’ve been to visit their cellar door and seriously enjoyed the wines on offer. Classic Barossa Shiraz which is perfect by the fire in winter, shared at a BBQ or given as a gift to lovers of this iconic wine region.
