5 Wines You Should Be Drinking This Summer 05/10/2015

As a guest of the fabulous Sonia Styling blog I was asked to recommend the      '5 Wines You Should Be Drinking This Summer'... what a fabulous idea! Here are the wines I recommended and once you've ordered yourself a few, hop on over to Sonia's page to see what she has been up to. She is truly a fabulous, fashionable and funny girl with an inspiring lifetyle blog.

Mrs WP Top 5

Sparkles! My all time favourite wine is actually Champagne and this particularly amazing Sparkling Wine from Australia. Arras is made by the king of Australian bubbles Mr Ed Carr who is a lovely guy and a genius wine maker. Ed found the perfect vineyards in Tasmania, reminiscent of those in the Champagne region of France, and has used his wealth of experience to create Australia’s best sparkling. I cannot recommend Arras highly enough. This is the kind of Sparkles that you can enjoy on any occasion, even if it is just Friday! $32.95

Stella Bella Chardonnay is divine. Now, there is definitely some oak along with gorgeous fresh stone fruits, but it’s not over the top. If you’re saying ‘ick I hate wooded Chardonnay’ and you’re over 25 then it is time to pull up your big girl panties (or boy panties) and meet my girl Stella. A premium Margaret River wine without the premium price tag! Try it with smoked chicken salad, brie and dried fruit or Sunday roast pork with all the trimmings. $31.95

Keeping the dream alive for team Sav Blanc is the Greywacke Wild Sauvignon Blanc. You would have noticed that Sav Blanc has fallen out of favour recently, but this Wild lady is special. Made with natural ferment it’s all nashi pears and orange blossom with the classic Marlborough zing to finish. Spring is here and this is the perfect wine to kick off an afternoon in the sun! $31.95

The textbook red wine to take when you’re heading out to dinner at an Asian restaurant is the Tamar Ridge Pinot Noir.  I can pick this wine almost anywhere, as proven when Mr WP made me ‘guess the wine in the brown paper bag’ at our favourite noodle place on Gouger Street. It’s so fruity on the nose and matches that with a big burst of cherries and strawberries on the palate. A Pinot for everyone, not just Pinot fans. $28.95

I have been raving about this delicious wine to anyone who will listen – Sons of Eden is my not so little secret. Sons of Eden Kennedy GSM was the first Grenache Shiraz Mourvedre blend that I really fell for and I still love it. It’s like fruity chocolatey wine loveliness with a medium body and some tannins so it’s not at all drippy. Just seriously yummy. A staple ingredient in Mrs WP’s wine pantry. $21.95.

Bonus Pick: Barbera

Part of our job is to try a range Australian and international wines each month to work out which ones I think are worth raving about. It’s a tough job but of course I love it. This wine is universally adored. Just one sip and everyone at the tasting bench is looking at each other thinking, hello are you drinking what I’m drinking? A bargain, delicious and dangerously drinkable. Her name is Lavignone Barbera d’Asti which can be a bit tricky so I just call her Barb, she loves it.

Cheers to a fabulous summer full of laughter, love and amazing wines!
